The important role of industrial gases in the Construction and Structure industry
To produce raw materials such as iron wire, steel,… as cores for pouring concrete in construction works, the stage of creating them requires the use of certain types of gases. Oxygen is an indispensable component of the metal smelting process in vertical or rotary furnaces. As an oxidizer, they are supplied to the furnace through special fuel nozzles. Thanks to oxygen, the heat of the furnace is significantly increased, thereby saving time, costs and reducing pollution emissions. Thanks to the oxidation reaction, impurities such as carbon in the steelmaking process are reduced, giving better quality.
How is Nitrogen Gas used in Construction and Structure?
Nitrogen is an inert gas and is used in the annealing process of metals. Thanks to the nitrogen annealing process, the metal becomes more flexible, does not crack under pressure, and is easy to process and shape without heat treatment, also known as cold working or cold rolling.
In addition, for the construction of some special structures or installation of pipes, to increase the strength of the structures, people can heat the outer metal part, then cool the inside part with liquid nitrogen so that the metals shrink and can be inserted. When the metals return to normal temperature, they will expand, thereby creating a tight bond.
Liquid nitrogen is used to cool concrete, making its structure more durable, less cracked, increasing its lifespan, especially in constructions such as:
– Floor structure of multi-storey houses
– Apartment floor beams
– High-rise buildings, offices
When construction activities must be carried out in soft, water-soaked soil such as building tunnels under rivers, the ground can be effectively frozen with liquid nitrogen. When nitrogen escapes into the soil, it evaporates, removing heat from the soil and freezing it, making it harder and more resistant.
An important application that cannot be ignored is Oxygen, Co2, Argon,… in welding, cutting, metal processing, mechanics. This is an indispensable activity in the construction of works such as bridges, roads, schools, hospitals,…
Understanding the role and importance of industrial gases in the field of Construction, Structure, depending on the needs of customers, Gas and Liquefied Gas will be transported and delivered to the destination by Natra Global in many different forms to ensure Safety, Efficiency and Savings.
